I Admire Our British Citizens

I do really admire the efficiency of our British citizens living in TRNC and the activities they organize.

They create events from nothing, get together, enjoy themselves, raise money and donate it to one of our government or non government organisations, they think in need.

This actually is one of the best methods to get alone with the locals and to merge with them.

I did check the local press to find out what our Britisih Citizens organized donation targeted since January 1, 2012.

I was amazed though from the result out came from this research.

There are total of 8 individual donation targeted events organized by the various charities, foundations, houses and persons.

One in January, two in February, one in March, two in April and two in May.

According to my records the first one was held on January 13 at St. Andrews Church in Kyrenia.  It was organized by  Susan Tilt, Carole King, Paul & Kookie Booker and Pam Kennedy. The event’s name was “Golden Draw of Year 2012” and aimed to deepen the susceptibility towards cancer and the importance of the early diagnosis. The raised money donated to “Patients of Cancer Charity”.

The second one was organized by the British Volunteers living in Esentepe and Tatlısu region under the title “Friends of TRNC Emergency Services” and “Glenco Cyprus Forum” on February 16. They donated 5 pieces of Electro Shock equipment costing £850 each to Kyrenia Akçiçek Hospital.

The third was rather an extraordinary “Toast Art” event of the famous British artist Lennie Payne.   He converts tasty carbs into intriguing toast art by blow torching, scraping to achieve different shades, lacquering and soaking in resin. He came to TRNC by the invitation of Neriman ve Danny Sawyer. The picture of Atatürk he solely created from toasts, pide and crumbs in Turnalar village on February 27, was presented to the Minister of Education. The income is donated to the Children Oncology Department of Nicosia Hospital.

The fourth was a direct donation by the North Cyprus Turkish-English Association to SOS Children’s Village Association on March 2.

The fifth one was a get-to-gether party organized by Fletcher family on April 12. Roy Fletcher served in the Birtish Army at Cyprus in 1947 and fell in love with the island. Settled to North Cyprus in the year 1986 and returned back to UK on 1999. Roy & Peggy Fletcher, together with their daughters Sarah & Beverly and grand children Ryan organized a party inviting all their Turkish Cypriot friends including some Ministers and the wife of the Prime Minister as well. Roy declared TRNC as his second homeland.

The sixth one was the “Traditional Photography and Painting Exhibition” organized by the North Cyprus Turkish-English Association on April 25 at Kyrenia Public Library.

The seventh one was organized by “North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust”. The trust was established by the British Citizens living in Kyrenia district years before and active on cancer related matters. They donated a Echo cardiograph and interventional Ultrasound İnstrument to Kyrenia Akçiçek Hospital on May 29.

And finally the eight one was organized by a group of benevolent British Citizens living in Kyrenia. They donated an “Intelligent Defibrillator” to the Municipality of Tatlısu on May 31. It is now in use of public in one of the largest supermarkets in the area.

So is the activity report of British Citizens for the past five months, which definitely caught up my admiration.

Thanks to you all.
